About Me

My name is Chip Curtis and I am a Junior at the University of South Alabama. I am 21 years old and pursuing a career in education. My purpose for the career that I have chosen is to be a Role Model for high school students. As a senior in high school I didn’t have many men that would take to time to impact me in a positive way. Apart from my father the role models in school were not setting a very godly exmple. This is why I have chosen to take my ministry and leadership qualities into the education field and set an example for my students to live by.

Technology in the Classroom

Technology is changing the classroom in many ways. Audio, Video, Podcast, YouTube, Blogs, etc… Teachers are learning to adapt to these changes to enhance the learning experience and create a more creative environment for students to learn. Information is accessible at almost anytime and anywhere. That is amazing! With Phones today you can access the same information that was restricted to only computers at only certain times. Where will technology be after the next five years? Ten? Things will definitely be changing. Lets let education benefit from these changes!

Google Tools

Google Tools is the newest way to share documents over the internet without having to worry about compatibility or the email being sent or deleted. It is a way that people can put documents on the google server in their database. This allows you, or anyone else to access these documents anywhere that internet is accessible. So Microsoft or other companies cannot get you stuck having to buy their software for every computer in the office. All you have to input data into google docs and they are completely usable and accessible. And they’re free!

Podcast

Podcast are one of the most excellent resources for education. It allows students to access information from many different points of view and from all over the world. Also, as a teacher, I can input podcast for my students and their parents to listen to. This will allow me to communicate with Students and families through an easily accessible source. Also, it can be listened to at any time. This allows for the most ease and convenience. This is a Great way to incorporate technology in the classroom.

Burp Back Education

I am against just telling students what they need to know and then testing them on information that they probably will not recall a week later. This does no good for students because they are just trying to memorize information from week to week rather than learning it in a way that makes you want to learn and make memorable experiences that causes you to learn a makes you want to learn more.

Blogs

I believe that blogs are an excellent source for teaching. Especially when keeping parents informed. A daily blog will allow parents to access what their children have done for that day. Also, it will allow them to reflect on days past and use these resources as a valuable information source. Also, students can create their own blogs and reflect on what they have learned on, lets just say, a weekly basis. This will help the teacher ensure that the students are learning material and can evaluate their teaching methods.

YouTube

As an excellent visual aide in the classroom youtube can transform the classroom experience and provide visual aide to a lecture or assignment. This is great for teacher’s who like to make movies. Because they can put a lesson on the internet allowing an alternative resource for students. Especially if a students happens to miss class they can access the lesson as if they were actually there. Technology is changing the world especially because of video access through sites such as YouTube.
